In 2009, Jessica undertook a 3-month Safle funded public art residency at Ruthin Craft Centre, developing site-specific artwork in response to the new £4.4m architectural redevelopment designed by Sergison Bates architects.

Temporary installation using reflective fabric
40 x 35m

Rectangular planters wrapped in light reflecting fabric created a unique installation that came to life after dark.  In the emptiness of the car park at night, linear patterns of white light were caught in car headlights as viewers drove around the geometric layout. The work was inspired by the artists drive home at night over the horseshoe pass, North Wales, where reflective markings shone bright against the darkness of the mountains.

< Spectrum 2009
32m

Permanent architectural illumination of Ruthin Craft Centre.

A projected 'spectrum' of colour becomes visible as darkness falls, transforming the building's surface as a blank canvas with which to paint with light. The work creates the bands of visible light that lie within the electromagnetic spectrum, displaying the wonder and beauty of colour.

< Capsule 2009
200cm x 105cm x 70cm

A mirror finish industrial glass neon sculpture developed in response to the electrical and industrial features of an empty workshop space at Ruthin Craft Centre. The work conveys ideas about the human pursuit to capture and store energy.
