< Mineral Water 2007, 125 cm x 25 cm 25 cm

Taking inspiration from the geological specimen cabinets and marine coral display of the Dick Institute’s natural history section, the work offers an insight into how these separately categorised worlds interlink.

A tank holding sea water and ocean minerals is exposed to ultraviolet light to reveal an eerie, exotic array of colour. The formation of salt crystals on the inside the glass tank, evokes the role of natural processes in the formation of some of the earth's most precious resources. As the tank slowly dries up, we are left only to contemplate the effects our modern day human activity has on the ocean - when something taken away, is not put back and the delicate balance of nature is disturbed.

Developed from investigation into the role of light in photosynthesis. An ultraviolet tank glows as fibre optic lines transmit light into a green aquarium, intercepting the smear of algae that suffocates the water's surface.

 < Spectarium, 2007, Projection: 170 cm x 130 cm

Light projected through a tank of water and colour filters reveals hidden vibrations of the water's surface, responding to the movement of people within the space.

Sound for the installation was created by taking a still image of the projection and feeding it into computer software converting colour into sound.
