‘Life in the Mines'  is a series of photographic works documenting the plant life that presently thrives under the artificial lights of the Arigna mine in Ireland. The light defines the areas of the mine wall where plants live - providing a boundary between where life exists and where it does not, a place where light and darkness meet.

Lonely in the darkness, signs of nature are reclaiming the mine. Seams of coal formed from ancient plant matter now sits alongside new life underground. Both function as storages of energy, one frozen in time and the other self-propagating.
